About me

Kathleen Henneman / Dutch in the Hague

My name is Kathleen Henneman. I have studied the Dutch, English and Russian languages and have lived as an expat in Russia (ten years), in Budapest (Jonapotkivanok!) and in the US (Bethesda) but we are back in Holland now and I have been teaching Dutch to expats for the past 7 years.

I teach Dutch on all levels using the language textbooks of the Coutinho publishers:  Nederlands in Gang (A1), Nederlands in Actie (B1), Nederlands op Niveau (B2) en Nederlands naar Perfectie (C1). I  have studied other handbooks equally and have constructed my own materials and courses.

I like grammar  because I believe you need to understand the rules of 'the puzzle' that languages are. But I do not like unnecessarily complicated grammatical terms or rules: how you can use it to speak  is all you need.  And so I like grammar, but I love to hear you speak more!

Do you have a little FOT (Fear of Talking :))? No need. People tell me I put them at ease when they speak as I am so encouraging and enthousiastic about the progress I see people make everyday. Other reviews tell me that I make Dutch grammar easier to understand, that I am always cheerful and make the lessons fun.
